Children’s Coat & Shoe Giveaway!

When the Cold Comes

There is a moment every fall when the morning air turns sharp and parents start digging through closets for winter coats. For many families, that moment is easy. For others, it brings a quiet worry: last year’s coat no longer zips, the sneakers have holes in the toes, and there simply isn’t room in the budget to replace them.

Children grow fast. A coat that fit in March can be two sizes too small by October, and shoes wear out faster than anyone expects. When money is tight, kids often go without, heading to the bus stop in a sweatshirt or squeezing into shoes that hurt.

That is exactly why Lydia’s Grace Ministry hosts the Children’s Coat and Shoe Giveaway.

What the Giveaway Is

The Children’s Coat and Shoe Giveaway is a free event for children ages 2 to 17. Families come to pick out a warm winter coat and a new pair of shoes for each child, at no cost and with no strings attached.

The giveaway takes place each fall, just as the weather starts to turn, so kids are ready before the first freeze. Last year’s event ran October 3 and 4, 2025, from 10 am to 6 pm.

Shopping, Not Standing in Line

This isn’t a handout line. Families reserve a time slot ahead of the event, then come in to “shop” for their children. Parents and kids browse the coats and shoes, try things on, and choose what fits and what they love.

That detail matters. Picking out your own coat, the color you like and the style that feels like you, is something most of us take for granted. For a child who usually wears hand me downs, walking out in something they chose themselves can be a real boost of confidence. For a parent, being able to provide that for their child is a gift of its own.

Reserving a time slot also keeps the day calm and unhurried, so every family gets the time and attention they deserve.

The Heart Behind It

In Matthew 25, Jesus describes the people who served Him without even realizing it: “I needed clothes and you clothed me.” When we care for the least of these, we are caring for Him.

A coat and a pair of shoes may seem like small things. But to a child standing at the bus stop on a frosty morning, they are warmth, comfort, and a reminder that someone sees them. Every coat handed out is a chance to show God’s love in a way a child can feel.

How You Can Help

The giveaway is possible because of people like you. Here are a few ways to be part of it:

  • Give financially. Every dollar goes toward coats and shoes for kids who need them. When you donate online, write “Lydia’s Grace” in the memo so your gift goes directly to this ministry.
  • Donate coats and shoes. Children’s sizes for ages 2 to 17 are always needed. Contact us to arrange a pick up or drop off.
  • Volunteer your time. Helping families find the right sizes on giveaway day makes a big difference. Reach out and we’ll let you know how to get involved.
  • Spread the word. Share this post with families, schools, and churches in your community so every child who needs a coat can get one.

Warmth That Lasts

A warm coat keeps a child comfortable all winter. But the message behind it, that they are loved and not forgotten, can last a lifetime.

If your family could use a coat and shoes for your children this season, or you’d like to help another family, contact us or visit the Lydia’s Grace page to learn more. Together, we can make sure no child faces the cold unprepared.
